BRUCE FORSTER, MD FRCP(C)
Radiologist
Medical Director of Canada Diagnostic Centres

Dr. Forster is a Professor at the UBC Department of Radiology and practices radiology at both Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.

He is the Director of the UBC Hospital Comprehensive MRI Fellowship program. Dr. Forster is the author of over 80 scientific abstracts and papers on radiology topics in the peer-reviewed literature, and has written over 60 educational scientific exhibits on MRI and CT. Dr. Forster is also a reviewer for national and international scientific journals.

Dr. Forster is a graduate of the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine, where he also completed his radiology residency.

He has a special interest in MRI of central nervous and musculoskeletal system, functional MRI and MR angiography, and MR Spectroscopy. He is one of three radiologists at Canada Diagnostic Centres qualified to assess breast MRI cases.



BORYS FLAK, MD FRCP(C)
Radiologist

Dr. Flak is a Clinical Associate Professor at the UBC Department of Radiology and the Division Head of Radiology at the UBC Hospital. He is also on active staff at both Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.

He received his degree from the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Alberta.

Dr. Flak has a keen interest in body imaging including CT, MRI and Ultrasound. He is also a leading expert in the field of Virtual Colonoscopy.



GORDON ANDREWS, MD FRCP(C)
Radiologist

Dr. Gordon Andrews is an Assistant Professor at the University of British Columbia and is on staff at both Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.

He graduated from Medicine and completed his radiology residency at the University of Saskatchewan, followed by a fellowship in MR imaging at the University of British Columbia. He has a special interest in musculoskeletal, neurological and emergency radiology. He is involved in both teaching and research.



AUDREY SPIELMANN, MD FRCP(C)
Radiologist

Dr. Spielmann is a Clinical Instructor at the UBC Department of Radiology and practices radiology at both Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.

She graduated from the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine. Since then she has completed an Abdominal Imaging fellowship at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, NC.

Dr. Spielmann has a special interest in body imaging including Ultrasound, CT and MRI and Breast MRI. She is one of three radiologists at Canada Diagnostic Centres qualified to interpret breast MRI studies.



IAN GARDINER, MD FRCP(C)
Breast Imaging Director of Canada Diagnostic Centres

Dr. Gardiner is a former Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Radiology and a breast imaging consultant at the Specialist Referral Clinic. In the past he was the Chief Screener at the Screening Mammography Program of BC's Broadway location and Director of the Vancouver Breast Centre.

Dr. Gardiner graduated from the University of British Columbia's Faculty of Medicine in 1989. He completed his residency in radiology and fellowship in body imaging a few years later at the University of Toronto.

Dr. Gardiner's area of expertise is medical breast imaging, including mammography, ultrasound and MRI. He is one of three breast specialists at Canada Diagnostic Centres.



BRETT HEILBRON, MBCHB, FRCP(C), FACC
Cardiologist

Dr. Heilbron is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Cardiology and a Clinical Cardiologists at St. Paul's Hospital.

Dr. Heilbron received his medical degree from the University of Cape Town, South Africa in 1984. He then moved to Canada and worked in Newfoundland and Manitoba before completing his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Heilbron has a keen interest in cardiac CT imaging.



SAUL ISSEROW, MBCHB, FRCP(C)
Cardiologist

Dr. Isserow is a Clinical Associate Professor at the UBC Department of Cardiology and Staff Cardiologist at Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals. He is the Director of the VGH Centre for Cardiac Rehabilitation and Associate Director of Cardiology Services at UBC Hospital.

Dr. Isserow is a graduate of the University of Witwatersrand, South Africa and moved to Canada in the late 80s. He practiced as a family physician and completed a residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation in Saskatchewan prior to settling in British Columbia. He completed his residency in internal medicine and fellow in cardiology at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Isserow has a keen interest in cardiac CT imaging.



MIKE MARTIN, MD FRCP(C)
Radiologist

Dr. Martin is a Clinical Assistant Professor at the UBC Department of Radiology and is on active staff at both Vancouver General and UBC Hospitals.

After receiving his degree from the Faculty of Medicine and completing his residency at the University of Alberta; Dr. Martin completed his fellowship training in Interventional Radiology at the University of British Columbia.

Dr. Martin has a special interest in Vascular imaging and is the Head of the Division of Interventional Radiology at Vancouver General Hospital.



Technologists



DEAN MAPLAS
Lead CT Technologist

Trained at S.A.I.T (South Australian Institute of Technology) Dean received his Diploma in Medical Radiography in 1970. He then worked as Chief X-ray Technologist at the 1st Australian Field Hospital in Vietnam in 1971, from there Dean moved on to become the Senior X-ray Technologist at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide South Australia from 1972-1991 when he made the move to Vancouver. Working in the Neuro-Radiology Department at Vancouver General Hospital Dean held the position of CT Technologist/Angiographer until 2003 when he became part of the Canada Diagnostic Centres team. Dean has been the Lead CT Technologist here at Canada Diagnostic Centres for the last 5 years and is a member of BCMART.


MELISSA PERIVICH RT R CT, BSCED, MSCED

Melissa graduated from Auburn University of Montgomery (AUM) in Montgomery AL with a Master's degree in Education in 2001, specializing in exercise physiology. In 2004 she graduated from Baptist School of Radiology in Montgomery AL. Certified in diagnostic radiology and Computed Tomography (CT) with the ARRT (American Registry of Radiological Technologist). Melissa worked at the Baptist Medical Centre East in Montgomery as an x-ray and CT tech before moving to Hollywood FL to work as a trauma CT Tech at the Memorial Hospital there. Melissa comes to us from Northside Hospital in Atlanta GA where she worked as a CT Tech until moving back home to Vancouver to work at Canada Diagnostic Centre.


JOHN POLLOCK
Lead MRI Technologist

John Pollock has been the Lead MR Technologist at Canada Diagnostic Centres since 2002. After graduating from BCIT (British Columbia Institute of Technology) in 1995 with his Medical Radiography Diploma John began working at Vancouver General Hospital. From 1995 to present John has worked in many areas of Radiology including, CT scan, MRI, Cardiac Cath lab and Radiography. John is committed to staying at the top of his field and continues to attend courses and conferences such as CAMRT; to upgrade his skills and keep on top of advancements in imaging.


IRISH ROSE MACALINO RTR, RTMR

After getting her certification in Radiography from Red River College in Winnipeg MB in 2004, and then being certified in MRI in 2005, Irish worked as an x-ray tech at the Health Sciences Centre in Winnipeg. Before joining the Canada Diagnostic MRI team, Irish worked at Royal Columbian & Surrey Memorial Hospitals as both a CT and MRI technologist.


HAMID TAHMASEBPOUR, BSC CRGS
Sonographer
Lead Ultrasound Technologist

Over the last 29 years, Hamid has refined his 'patient focused style' during his multifaceted medical career. Currently he is the Ultrasound Section Head at Canada Diagnostic Centres, a Clinical Instructor at the University of British Columbia Department of Radiology, the Program Director of the Ultrasound Seminars at www.sonographers.ca, and the Director of Research and Development at Digital Orientation Resolutions Inc. Hamid's dedication to learning and teaching in the medical field has inspired him to publish 7 medical books and multiple educational scientific papers on ultrasound. He has received 6 prestigious awards from the Radiological Society of North America for outstanding educational scientific exhibits on ultrasound topics including a Magna Cum Laude with Excellence in Design.

Hamid received his bachelor's degree in Radiology from the University of Medical Sciences in Iran and moved to Vancouver in 1991. He practiced medical radiography at Vancouver General Hospital prior to graduating from British Columbia Institute of Technology's Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program in 1996. In the past Hamid was the Clinical Preceptor of the Radiology Department at St. Paul's Hospital in Vancouver.

Hamid has a special interest in vascular ultrasound.
