Canada Diagnostic Centres in Vancouver is a private clinic. The costs of our MRI and CT scans are not covered by your provincial medical plan (MSP). Scans must be paid for by the individual or company arranging for the exam.

We accept Visa, MasterCard, American Express and debit cards only. Corporate clients may request a credit application.

There are some alternative ways to alleviate the cost of an MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan, depending on whether you are an individual, employee or business owner.

Individuals - The cost of an MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan paid for by an individual is eligible for the medical tax credit. The disability tax credit or the attendant care expense deduction may also be available. For further information on tax credits, contact Canada Revenue Agency at 1-800-959-8281. This may be particularly helpful for people who may be retired or have no access to a business.

Employees - If you are a participating employee in a Group Benefit Program at work, you and your employer can arrange to have the cost of your MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan paid for under the program by your employer's group insurance carrier on an "extra-contractual" basis. The terms vary from plan to plan, but group benefit programs invariably provide for such "extra-contractual" arrangements. The expense is tax-deductible to the employer.

Business Owners - Whether a sole proprietorship, partnership or corporation, business owners can use company money to pay for their MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan, if set up properly. The cost is 100% tax deductible to the business, and it's not a taxable employee benefit. Business owners can utilize their present group insurance plan to cover "extra-contractual benefits". This is a very tax-efficient method of paying for an MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan. If your business has no group insurance plan, a Private Health Services Plan (PHSP) can be set up for this purpose. It enables a business to pay the cost of expenses not covered by a group insurance plan. The business then deducts the full cost as a tax-deductible business expense. There is a nominal cost of setting up the plan for professional and administrative fees and a monthly fee for ongoing administration. Medical costs incurred in addition to the MRI, CT or Ultrasound scan can also be paid for via the PHSP.
