March is Colon Cancer Awareness month.
Colon Cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths in Canada – yet this is one of the most preventable cancers if abnormal growths are found early.
Everyone over age 50 should be screened for colon cancer, and people with risk factors should start even earlier. Find out more about screening tests here.
The gold standard for colon cancer screening is an optical colonoscopy – an alternative is a Virtual Colonoscopy or CT Colonography. This is a quick, simple scan that requires no sedation and is ideal for people at average risk for developing colon cancer. Visit our website to learn more.
If you are interested in learning whether a colonoscopy, virtual colonoscopy or FIT test is right for you, talk to your doctor – these are tests that could help save your life.
If we can help with a Virtual Colonoscopy, send us an email at email@example.com or give us a call at 604-709-8522.

Designed by Cancer Care Ontario (CCO), My CancerIQ is a website that helps you understand your risk for cancer and what you can do to help lower that risk. Taking a My CancerIQ assessment can give you information to help protect yourself against cancer. As you work through the assessments, you’ll learn: – What factors help to keep your risk of cancer down – What factors increase your risk of developing cancer – What you can do to manage or reduce your risk, including links to helpful resources Where appropriate, you’ll learn whether you should be screened for particular types of cancer, such as colorectal, cervical and breast cancer. My CancerIQ won’t tell you whether you’ll get cancer or not, but it can help you focus on specific changes you can make to lower your cancer risk and live a healthier life. While it’s true you can’t change some risk factors like your age or family history, research has shown there are many things you can do to lower your risk. Talk to your doctor about your risk factors. At Canada Diagnostic, we can help with a Low-Dose CT scan for Lung Cancer Screening or a Virtual Colonoscopy for colon cancer screening. Call us today at 604-709-8522 to find out more or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org.

In big news last week, results of a study suggest that taking aspirin daily, may help prevent colon cancer in people who have a known genetic predisposition for the disease. After five years of taking the aspirin, high-risk patients in the study had their cancer risk reduced by 50%.
Aspirin alone – whether a person is high-risk or not – is not the entire solution. Regular screening for colon cancer is a MUST. There are several types of screening tests available including CT Colonography (“Virtual Colonoscopy”) which the American Cancer includes as one of its recommended screening exams. As part of his health check, President Obama underwent Virtual Colonoscopy last year.
Canada Diagnostic has been offering Virtual Colonoscopy since 2002. All of our Radiologists have full College of Physicians & Surgeons of BC Certification to read Virtual Colonoscopy. To learn more about Virtual Colonoscopy, please take a look at our info sheet: QA – Virtual Colonoscopy.
